Criminal Investigations Division
The Haywood County Sheriff's Office has a ten person Criminal Investigations Division.
The Unit is led by a Detective Chief Investigator. Under his command are eight full time Investigators and a Criminal Analyst.
The unit consist of four General Investigators, a two man Narcotics Unit, and two Detectives dedicated to the Child Abuse Task Force.
Generally, the Investigations Division handles cases that are not readily resolvable by the Patrol Deputy taking the initial report. These cases usually require a dedication of significantly more time than a Patrol Deputy can devote to an individual call for service. Some cases also require specialized training, experience, or expertise.
The Sheriff’s Office is also fortunate to have a State Bureau of Investigation Agent assigned to work out of the Sheriff’s Office.
