Detention Facility

The Haywood County Detention Center is comprised of 2 facilities, the main jail within the new Law Enforcement Center, and the Satellite Jail adjacent to the NC Department of Corrections Hazelwood Unit on Hemlock St.

All persons arrested and unable to make bond in Haywood County are held at one of these 2 facilities. In addition, the 2 facilities house inmates who are sentenced by the courts to local custody.

A large responsibility of the Jail Employees is the transport of involuntary commitments. Usually a Patrol Deputy takes the respondent into custody and transports them to the Hospital for evaluation. They are often sent to a 24 hour mental health facility by the examining physician. The Jailers are usually called on to transport the respondant.
